One of the main methods of continuously producing grids is the lamination process. Among its advantages are the low weight of the grid, the ability to manufacture a wide variety of sizes, capability of producing up to 600 plates per minute and uniformity in bar sizes, while the operational rate of a modern casting machine is approximately 10–16 castings per minute. So, over the past few years, there has been substantial enhancement in the performance of the lead-acid battery, but there are some still problems which are yet to be solved.As extensively documented by numerous studies [,,, ], the grid corrosion is consistently identified as a primary contributor to premature failures, especially in stand-by applications.During. The grids were kindly donated by a Brazilian battery industry that prefers to remain anonymous for confidentiality reasons. It is known that the chemical composition of the lead alloys can directly influence the corrosion process [12,13]. The approximate composition of the rolled and cast grides used was in the range of 98.56–98.81 % for Pb; 1.08–1.35 % for Sn and 0.05–0.06 % for Ca.The variations of the rolling parameters were performed on the industrial plant production line while the production parameters of the cast grids did not change. The manufacturing parameters are presented in the subsequent sections.
